Who's to Blame?

With conspiracy theories flying, I thought I would try my best to put them to rest. We need to lay the blame at the feet of the person who is responsible.

Repeatedly this person has used illness, fear of death, and suffering to bring about necessary change both in individuals and in the world. Even with illness, fear of death, and suffering, many people do not change. For some people, this person has both caused fear and provided courage. For other people, this person has both wounded and healed. In what seems ridiculous to me, the person has both taken life and given it back again. This person is defined by many to be both the bane of humanity and refuge for humanity. No one wrestles with this person and walks away without limping unless this person lets you.

I’ve been wrestling with this person for a long time. So far, even though I keep feeling like I’m losing, I think I still got this person in my grip.

A lot of well meaning people attribute the source of comfort to this person and rightly so. This person is always there to comfort. This person comforts because this person perfectly identifies with the pain and suffering of others even when this person is the cause of the pain and suffering. When this person is not the direct cause of the pain and suffering, this person has still allowed the pain and suffering to happen, even though this person has the power and authority to intervene.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, this person is God. No one else has both the power and authority to pull off a world perspective changing move in so short a time. No one else has the track record to have successfully done it before and done it repeatedly!

Yes, God is to blame. And yet, as God, by definition, God is good. God is love. Sure, everyone who believes in God knows that God is all knowing and all powerful. God has the power and wisdom to pull this off. Only God. Why would God?

God invites humanity, whom God created, to be in an eternal relationship with God. This eternal relationship that we were intended to have can only happen if we are perfect because God is perfect. Since God is all powerful only God can make us perfect and God does.

In a book that reveals God at work among people through whom God has brought suffering, God reveals that God’s purposes are always to bring people back to a relationship with God because God is life. Seek God and live.
